Mechanics: Boredom (1st post)


Something rarely realised is how incredibly boring things get when you have nothing to do. In the last update of the game, every participant in a test run has enjoyed playing and found it interesting, but also lost focus eventually and drifted onto other things, or had interludes. I have tried to create this from early on and I think I finally have it: it is my attempt to mimic the boredom of homelessness. I have also played games where people instantly get off of the streets, which also happens, but that is more of a random chance aspect which I'm not talking about here in particular. Playing in a group is also very different to playing alone as people consider and imagine events more, with less distractions. I know I cannot give a fair description of what the feeling is like, but I hope I can make people think a little more about various aspects of it. When I am playing in my playtests I often find myself explaining decisions and I have tried to make them obvious. This is not always possible so I will be writing about them here.
